Can Co-Washing only be bad for natural hair?

A friend of mine living in Atlanta went to Urbanbella wanting a deep condish and style. When asked about her routine she stated she co-washed weekly. The stylist told her co-washing was not good for our natural hair and that shampooing then conditioning was best. Has anyone heard this before?
