Alberta versus BC

I am applying at as many places in BC and some in Alberia aka Alberta as i can hoping to get in Before 2010. My question is why is the alberta program 2 years and so much more expensive? will I be cheating myself of an excellent education if I take the shorter and less costly BC road?
